Mallards are arguably one of the most studied species on the planet. As a species that is important to ecosystem health, human use, and biological understanding, we have looked at all facets of Mallard biology and ecology. Join Dr. Terry Kowalchuk, School of Environmental Sciences, Lethbridge College, as he shares observations of Mallard biology from his work across the prairies and parklands of North America. Interesting observations about nest site selection, migration, predator avoidance, breeding behavior, disease and more will be shared.
Dr. Kowalchuk will present information that he observed working as a technician and biologist at places like Delta Marsh, Pakowki Lake, and Milk River Ridge and other areas significant to Mallards. He will also share some of the interesting research techniques used to gather these observations. This presentation will complement the observations of audience participants and hopefully create a better appreciation of one of our most common ducks.
The presentation will be held at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre community room, located in the Lethbridge river valley at the north end of Indian Battle Road South.
